Dan on Bucking BroncMontana rodeo cowboy Dan Mortensen has won six PRCA World Saddle Bronc Champion titles and one World All Around title. His sixth bronc title ties him with the legendary Casey Tibbs.

Dan was born on December 16, 1968 and is the son of Don and Sheryl Mortensen of Billings, Montana. He attended Lockwood School, Billings Senior High School, Northwest College in Powell, WY, and Montana State University in Bozeman. He graduated form MSU with honors and earned a degree in economics and agri-business.

Since he was a young boy of eleven, Dan has participated in rodeo. In 1990, he joined the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and was awarded Rookie of the Year. Since then he has won many honors and is the first rough stock rodeo cowboy to earn over $2,000,000.

After living several years in the Manhattan area, Dan now makes his home in Billings with his wife, Darla. After the 2006 rodeo season, Dan decided to take a year off to recuperate from several injuries. He went back on the rodeo circuit in 2007 and continues to ride in selected rodeos.

On September 17, 2004, Dan was inducted into the Montana State University Athletic Hall of Fame. In a ceremony at the Strand Union Building on the campus of Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, Dan was honored for his accomplishments during his rodeo career at the university from 1989-91, as well as for his exceptional achievements as a professional rodeo athlete.
